Volunteers in Disasters – Thursday at 6pm

This month’s meeting of Volunteers in Disasters, sponsored by  Flagler Volunteer Services and the host agency Flagler County Emergency Management – will be held on Thursday, June 9th at 6pm at the Flagler County EOC. Refreshments and social time start at 5:30pm.

This month’s topic is “Amateur Radio and the Flagler EOC” – so if you are a member of ARES or not yet affiliated with the organization, we invite you to join us. The entire EOC staff – including the new Public Safety Emergency Manager will be there – so it will be a good opportunity to meet the leaders of the agency we serve.

All are welcome.

TROPICAL STORM COLIN UPDATE #5

Taken From The EM website:

As of 6:00 PM a Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Flagler County. This means that tropical storm conditions (wind over 39 mph) are likely in the next 24-36 hours.

A Flood Watch remains in effect.

What we expect.
Timing – Affects from the storm will continue overnight.
Rain – 2-5 inches with localized higher amounts. Main concern is possible flooding
Severe Weather – There is the risk of the odd tornado or storm wind gust over 60 mph.
Winds – Winds are forecast 30-35 mph but a few brief periods of 40 mph is possible with higher gusts.

Government offices and schools are scheduled to operate normally on Tuesday.

Sandbags are available at the following locations: Flagler County – Flagler County Fire Station 71, located at 89 East County Road 2006 in St. Johns Park , Palm Coast – City of Palm Coast Public Works Yard US 1 and Wellfield Grade. Flagler Beach – Flagler Beach Fire Station 11 on south Flagler Ave, Bunnell – Bunnell Fire Department and behind the old Bunnell City Hall.

Some disruption to power may occur. Persons may wish to secure any loose items that could be blown about.

All interests in Flagler County should continue to monitor the latest weather bulletins and this is a good time to review your tornado plan should warnings be issued. There may be very little or no warning for severe weather today, seek shelter immediately when warnings are issued or if hazardous weather approaches. Persons who live in flood prone areas should be prepared for protective actions if needed. COLIN5. RADAR2.
